Yes, as long as the evaporating temperature is above triple point. At 1 bar(a) the evaporating temperature is 100°C. That limits the field of application a lot.
Sure, but beacuse of the vapor density at normal temperatures the equipment is about 500 times larger than normal equipment. I'm not kidding about the number either.

Also used in Heat Pipes for transferring heat from one area to another e.g. reclaim cooler air from spill air to fresh air on AHUs. Most commonly used in solar heat tubes to heat water. Sometimes used for cooling CPUs and grey water heat reclaim. As far as compression - I'm sure someones working on it, would it work on something like a Turbo Cor?
At about 4.2 kJ/kGK it's the best secondary refrigerant available. There are many different types of water too.
