I was recovering gas from a r12 system recently wile carrying out a condenser change, and unfortunatly had no recovery bottles, so i filled the refrigerant into a binliner, when i returned to charge the system the gas had escaped, what should I do?

You must have had a hole in the bin-bag.
It won't be far away. You'll probably find that it's under the floor boards.
Take up all the floor boards, one at a time, and carefully collect it all with a vacuum cleaner back into the bin bag.
Try to get a photo of it and post it here - the engineers are always keen to see how it can be done.

Also, make sure the vacuum cleaner is a dyson, these have an anti fluffer valve so no gas can escape, you san then attach guages to the removable cylinder and re charge it into the system.

I never noticed before but I have just looked and found a 1/4 flare connection on my DC01 thanks for the advice p p:D
Maybe the safety valve lifted, I`d recommend fitting a new one and getting the bin line pressure tested

Iv now found that the henry is a perfect vacume cleaner for a refrigeration engineer! it dubbles as a vacume pump!
I've got one of those dewalt ones that uses tool batteries so i can vac out if i've drilled through the mains tails again :D

Wow funny post I did need to translate it on Wikipedia to U.S.A. speak to find what a binliner is A bin bag, garbage bag, trash bag, refuse sack, can liner (American English), swag sack or bin liner (British English) is a disposable bag used to contain rubbish. Such bags are useful to line the insides of waste containers to prevent the insides of the receptacle from becoming coated in waste material. funny stuff!

i saw an engineer mopping r12 up with a rag- yes really he "dropped" something on the pipe and soaked up the gas with a cloth. He doesnt get out much.
