anyone know where you can get the flat metal tools for sizeing up pipework. HRP & NRS used to keep them but no longer do.
they were a lot easier to see what pipe the pipe size of something was instead of trying to measure it or carry lots of small lengths of pipe

Try blindfolding yourself. Then pick up pieces of pipe and guess what sizes they are. It shouldn't take long, and you will never need a tool other than your hands.

Can you post a picture of those tools because i never heard of those before?
What is exactly the purpose of it?

It is a gauge that measures the outer diameter of the pipe against a graduated scale.

Dan is right - with experience you soon get to know the sizes by looking at them.

It is a little more difficult when dealing with capillary tubes, but I use to have a small vernier calliper for those occasions.
