Fitted a new comp today on a toshiba vrf (r407c) when i switched it on it went BANG!!!!and a flame came out of the bottom of the electrics box:confused: upon testing found the comms board blown.Any idea why it would do this?(it was not my company that ordered this comp to be replaced)

Hi There
The 407c tosh vrf has a single shell compressor, but there are two compressors in it, inverter and fixed. If the inverter comp was the problem that led to it being replaced, usually this will also take out the controller board, and changing both parts has to be done.

Yes i did ask where the inverter board was when the comp turned up but tosh said it was not required so i went ahead and fitted just the comp.Makes me wonder if the comp was faulty to start with?

Comms/control board or inverter control board?

I never seen the compressor blowing the comms board but quite frequently it takes out the inverter control board..

i spend two weeks on a problem site with four of these,so i feel your pain, ive never had this fault on these but did have it on a very early hitachi set FX system,if these give you any more probs i will be happy to upload the service manual for it as i feel as i wrote it after them two weeks

Hi Dai Kin,

Sounds like you may have a trapped cable or something along those lines from when the compressor was changed. Short to earth in other words.

You sure it's a F105 model? Single fan on top.

The F104 models (earlier and two fans on top) could suffer moisture getting onto the fixed speed compressor contactor in the bottom left of the e-box. That causes a hell of a bang on start up - three phases tracking across!!

Note - only this on the F104 model.

You can get manuals from any of the Tosh distributors - even downloads some from their websites.

Cheers

I rang tosh tech today and they are sure it is the ipdu drive board that is faulty and this is the reason for the comms board going BANG!!!
