We generally use White daylight tube lights in the cold store. However many places I have seen Yellow colored tubelights. Mostly Europe uses Yellow color by default.

Any reason for a particular colored tube lights?

Alot of the meat factories i work in have pink lights.
Its to do with discolouring the meat.

Is it really?

I had always thought it was to make it look better.
Morrisons are right sticklers for the colour of their lamps, I thought they were just being arsish.

Hi smpsmp45
The best light is that which reproduce the natural sun light. Lignt is very important to identify the color of diferents goods

Normally we use fluorecent bulb(cold weather) for low hight and Metal Halide for more than 5 m hight. That give us a good lingting

I came across other reference. The cold store conditions are humid & the visibility of Yellow to human eyes is the max. & hence That is recommended. Even The traffic signals / road marks are yellow for the same reason.

If the product is on public display (such as a supermarket) then the owners are very touchy about the light color. It has to do with the light spectrum and the actual product.

As chillin out mentioned, meat display cases are very selective.

If the cold store is for long or short term storage in a distribution facility the color tends to be less of an issue because energy use and heat reduction from the lamps is more important.
