Hi
What should I do with the extra tubes and pipes equiped with the split type room air conditioner when the distance between the indoor and outdoor units is short (say 1 m or less )? Is it right to to circle them behind the outdoor units or to cut them as short as possible?
Where can I find a book for pipe design and tubing ?

We have the same problem here!!!!!

The explanation is this : Because splits have cap tubes then the system is critically charged. This means one has to know the exact amount of charge. Now for each model the manufacturer gives the exact charge with specific length of tubing. For example for up to 25m of piping charge 3kg. Now if the actual piping is 20m then the technician rolls the extra 5m behind the condensing unit. BECAUSE he does not know how much must be charged:eek:.

The solution is training. If the technicians know how to charge then we won't see any extra tubes anymore.

Splits normally have problems when the pipes are too short, mainly on heating. They get noisy on heating/defrost, high temps seen at the indoor pipe thermistor cause compressor to cycle down on inverters, or the O/U fan to cycle off a lot, causing extra defrost cycles.
For small units under 4kw, it's best just to have a 2m pipe run minimum (so a 1m pipe run and 1m coiled behind the unit). For larger units, a 3m pipe run is reccommended, so coil 2m behind it if the pipe run is 1m.
You could remove some refrigerant like lana suggested, but that doesn't always solve the noise problems anyway, and some manufacturers might not honour the waranty if it was running less refrigerant than the design.
