Post your workvan?

G'day,

I've been reading through these forums for quite some time, only recently signed up under my own name though. Up until now, I have been using a communal company one to login and browse.

As you can probably tell already, I'm from Brisbane, Aus, and work for a small refrigeration company thats been in business for over 30 years. It specialises in commercial and industrial equipment, though not to the extent of ammonia plants. More air dryers, water chillers, cold and freezer rooms, beverage equipment, display cabinets, etc.

As way of introduction, I thought I'd start a thread asking people to post up a picture of their work vehicles :) Its always interesting to see what type of vehicle various companies choose - whether it be a van, ute, or wagon - and the reasons for choosing that vehicle. I'd love to see how other companies in different parts of the world setup their gear too.

So to get the ball rolling, heres my van:

Its a Mercedes MB100 van (which is just a Ssangyong built van thats been rebadged). We use vans because theres no way to fit that amount of gear safely into a ute. As you can see we carry a fair range of gases, from left to right you can see R22, 34m, R507, R134a. Behind that is R404a and R408a (hidden by the filter material). One other benefit of a van is that having a rear door that lifts up gives you a nice work area for outdoor jobs when it starts raining :)

The other bonus of a van is I can fit my sub and amp in the back without having to worry too much about someone being able to steal it. I enjoy my music too much to rely on the standard head unit and cheap speakers to give enough noise :)

Thats the result of the "highway" (aka rutted dirt road) between Cairns in the NE of Australia, and Cooktown (which is even further NE). We did a trip last year up the coast installing Frozen Carbonated Beverage machines (aka FCBs / Frozen Coke / Slurpee). Round trip of, oh, 5000k :)

I drive a KIA van, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Noisy, already rusting (only 2 years old). Tyres wear out quickly due to bad alignment that they can't seem to fix, no power, no torque, bad economy (12-13L/100km and it's a diesel).

My van is a Nissan Navara with cabinets on the back.

We bought several ex telstra vans Toyata hiace.
Low klms, already racked out with full service history best vans we have ever bought. Have had these vans for about 2-3 years not one problem.

Worst van Mazda E2000 on gas. Played up on a monthly basis.

How does one work out of a range rover? Wheres the storage? Or are these for people wandering around with nothing heavier than a clipboard and a measuring tape :P

I see that you have got one of those little 'Tilt' indicators on the condenser packaging ;).
Bet you can't say it was the carrier that did it when it don't work :D:D

I work as a Service Tech for a sub company of Schweppes, I install and repair post-mix and beverage dispensing equipment, FCB machines, can vendors and drink display cabinets.

Limited variety in the refrigeration side of things, but the the assorment of work is good.

I see a Schweppes logo there Actinide.... We do a lot of work for Schweppes in Brisbane on postmix and GDMs. And FCBs. And ice machines. Actually pretty much anything they own :P

Dr._Feck nice to see you keep your bottles secure in the van wedged is OK and the best way
if i dont wedge my vac pump it always falls over there is oil every where this way the van wont rust

Help please guys - need inspiration. Last week I had my trusty old swb transit written off by some dodgy youth in a vw golf. I had my old transit racked out with some metal racking and had it set up, finally, how I liked It after nearly 3 years. Today I picked up my new van, an 04 plate Iveco daily swb, low roof. The good thing is I now have much more room to play with, but the downside is that the racks I've got are not wide enough to fit over the iveco's much larger wheel arches. Also the spare wheel on the Iveco lives inside the van tucked up against one of the arches. I install and service A/C and work on commercial fridge, so I need to carry at least six gas bottles, recovery set up and nitrogen all the time. I've been sat in the back of the van shifting the racks round and round and cannot come up with a decent plan. If anybodys got any ideas or more pictures of what they do it would be greatly appreciated. I haven't got long, my hire van will have to go back soon so I need to get mine set up and ready to work asap.

about 18 months this time, worked for them previously for about a year then left for a year. I went to work for an a/c company for a good hourly rate but didnt enjoy the work, on less money now but a lot happier

I only ask as they are a local company and obviously quite a large outfit - I know a few people who have worked there in the past, seem decent enough. I take it you cover your local area?

I run a somewhat battered 2nd. hand Combo van, bought specifically to enable access to a couple of London sites that the 2 Merc's we have cannot get into.
It's actually been the best van of the 3 according to the boss!

Anyone got any valid points for NOT changing from Toyota avensis estate to a van???firm is making noises over health and safety issues with gas bottles in rear,anyone had this ?how did you get round it,any suggestions ?

years ago i was passenger in a van without a bulkhead,we had to do a emergency stop and a gas bottle hit my mate at the back of the head,it was so serious i had rib ache for days.:D

hi mate, i only do service and estimating now so i only need a small van,my lad has a mrec vito sport V6 TDI chipped to 255 bhp:eek:for the installations,to be honest i love the little tazzing about van but its a bit thirsty,yours is a more practical van.;) but were petrol heads !!!
