just wondering if any one has any tips on an oil change for screw compressors. i've got 4 recip's and 7 screws to do. the recips are no problem, but haveh't done a screw before. they are on 2 large york chillers (YCAS 0953). any tips would be greatly apreciated.

Make sure you let all the pressure go from the comp before you unsrew the oil drain plug.
If you do not let all the pressure go I'll assure you you will remember it.:D

Do You have access to it? Can You recover this oil?
There should be a drain cap on the bottom of it.....

Is ther separator also oil receiver? If so ,does it have a sight glass?

I'm changing the oil on two of our chillers , 567 liters of oil each, a nice piece of cake.... :-)

When you have drained all the oil install a valve in place of the plug that way you will be able to connect a hose to it in future and pressurise the package and blow it into a drum fairly quickly.
Does the seperartor have coalescer elements fitted if so check these for wax and other contaminants or holes, if so replace them at the same time, also the filters.
If you have an oil cooler fitted make sure you drain this as well, there should be a plug on the bottom and as with the seperator fit a valve.
Have you had an oil test done.

567 litres of oil??? I would double check that if I was you. If you can seperate the high side from the low, then drain the oil from the bottom of the seperator. Pull a deep vacum on the compressor, seperator etc and suck the new oil in.

Hey Shakey
I don't have the same compressor as Madmart, the chillers that I work on are VSM89 (6000Kw ref cap)...
Cheers..
Madmart, how is the job going??
