Hello to the good folk at ref.engineer, I'm also new to the forum and its very interesting to see the vast range of knowledge posted on this site. I'm interested in the use of hydrocarbons in rerigeration/airconditioning systems if anyone has some information it would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Hi sawtell
A word of warning using Hydrocarbon refrigerants, they can be explosive and flammable in confined spaces where there is a spark or heat source. There have been instances of fridiges being burned.
Also some suppliers will not warrant compressors running on these refrigerants.
Plants I have seen operating on these refrigerants have had gas detectors fitted in the plant room to shut everything down if a leak occurs. That should tell you something. Personally I wouldn't touch them and have refused to work on them.
Your safety should be the first concern.
