Hi guys,

I am doing a study for a utility regarding energy patterns in refrigeration. Can any of you guys tell me what refrigeration exists at a typical Costco?

Why not pose the question to Costco?

I'm sure that they have full asset registers which would provide that sort of info.

I also believe they reclaim heat to heat their hot water?

I've installed and remodeled 20 Costco's. I am currently servicing 2 of them. They have an excellent maintenance contract which provides adequate room for a contractor to really go in and do a good job during the PM's and help avoid expenses related to failures. The newer ones have large racks, approximately 150 hp each, with the medium and low temperature divided on each rack. The large POS boxes have 1/2 the refrigeration on one rack and the other half on the other rack. They could use minor improvements on energy usage, but have such low maintenance costs with the simpler systems, I would argue that they are fairly close to optimum in the big picture.
