I find myself constantly at jobs where joiners have boxed in cabinets leaving poor ventilation around condensing units with a silly vent. apart from building a plenum chamber for condensor is there anything else u can do. air temp on cond can be 40d C at times

Hi Jack, good to read you at last:)

It sounds as though you need to add ventilation fans to provide both a supply and extract into the formed chambers.

Just to be picky and to add to your 'techy words' list, a plenum is a space under positive pressure.

Remind your customers that there is a need both for maintenance and for prolonging the life of the equipment.

If the equipment is boxed in and overheating then compressor and fan motor life will be shortened.

How easy is it to gain access for cleaning the condenser coil for example. Extra time on site for this work costs money and also if the coil is difficult to clean then it's 10 to 1 that it won't be cleaned properly. Once again this will impact on the compressor life.

We had this problem in Shell garages years ago, all we could do is fit bigger extractor fans.

Tut, Tut, Brian. How mis-leading :D

Imagine a ceiling void in an office being used as a return air path for the ventilation - positive or negative pressure ??? :D:D;)

Imagine a ceiling void in an office being used as a return air path for the ventilation - positive or negative pressure ??? :D:D;)It's got to be negative in relation to the surrounding area otherwise the air wouldn't move through it would it ?

The air pressure within the office space is at a higher pressure than that in the ceiling space which which why the air can be extracted through the ceiling vents/grilles or whatever.

If the ceiling void was at a positive pressure in relation to the office space then the air would travel from the ceiling into the office space.
