Hey all,
Just joined up here after poking around and already see this is much better then XS, much friendlier too.
I am currently about to begin working on a three stage cascade for Sdumper, I've done plenty of two stagers, but will be getting r14 involved in this build.

The parts;
Stage One:
Another 3/4-7/8hp Tecumseh Rotary compressor
Chilly1 Cascade condenser
Receiver
TXV
Plate HX Possibly, though might do a standard 1/4" in 1/2" depending on copper prices
And all that jazz of T's and pipework and filters and such
r507a

Stage Two: Sdumpers Rotary single stage de-commissioning
3/4-7/8hp Tecumseh Rotary compressor
Chilly1 Single stage condenser, or the original condenser without fan in front of condenser fan
Temprite 304 Oil separator
Packless 1k-Burst Hand Valve
(Into the HX)
Receiver
TXV
Plate HX
r1150
Safety cut-off, relief, expansion tank, de-composite pressure relief

Stage Three: Tecumseh 1.125hp Rotary
Half of original condenser as desuperheater, plus large coil
Temprite 304 Oil separator
Packless 1k-Burst Hand Valve
(Into Second HX)
(Into subcooler)
Capillary to Subcooler and evaporator)
Kayl Evaporator on 24" Braided Flexible Line
r14 + r740
Safety cut-off, relief, expansion tank, de-composite pressure relief

I'm now considering moving the large 1.125hp Tecumseh to the first stage, what do you think all? I will be building this stage by stage and any help is appreciated as I am semi expecting at least one or two problems to start occuring.

They will have no clue whom chilly1 is nor The other guy Noob, They like all the juicy data!

Give em the link to the Xs thread so They can see who chilly1 is and such.

Oh and welcome to the best site on the web :)

Deep down I knew where you were coming from fella :)
I just had a pedantic moment there!

I wish you the best of luck with the build NoL, it will be interesting to see some results.

Moved largest compressor to first, floated AC&R oil sep for third, still going with temprite on second, starting actual build and layout very soon.

Hi Nol,

What stage have you reached with this build?

Been done a few months actually, held into -122C @ 250W, -126C @ 200W, and -151C unloaded.
R14 final stage with a slight argon tinge.
Switched third stage to a temprite 902.

Impressive results, was a subcooler used with the r14 and argon? I've found simply wrapping capillary tube can do it, however you acheive no where near the level of argon saturation as you could with a subcooler or suction line heat exchanger transferring to the pre metering device line.

Hi
Really interested to here about your project.
We have a company in England building freeze driers and Vacuum cold Traps.
I Design and build 3 stage cascades but not as cold as yours. Only 3 stage for the duty. R23, R507 and R134a. Top stage just to use it as a heat pump in the system.
I have used R1150 but never R14.
I used Reciprocating compressors but would love to get my hands on some rotary compressors.
