hi lads, servicing a sanyo vrf installation and was taking readings (12.4Aper phase), on some of the units the amperage being drawn from unit is low compared to rated running amps(16.8per phase) of unit there is two d.o.l compressors per system...ran units on heat mode for a while too put a good load on floors too run cooling....to me thats short of refrigerant....could it be possible to add additional charge to this system by watching the running current instead of calcilating per pipe run??

cheers

Actual running currents tend to differ to what is labelled on the nameplate of these units. Commissioning/testing of the units by the manufacturer is never carried out in a building with the fan coils 40 odd metres away from the vrf.
If your running pressures, air on/air off and 'running currents' appear all normal then your commissioning process is satisfactory and there would be no reason to add additional refrigerant on top of your calculated pipe run lengths.
BTW what are the Sanyo units like, anygood?

i commissioned a sanyo roof top last year, cant remember the model but its the engine/gas driven one and bar it being a pig to set up(thankx chris at sanyo) was really impressed with it,very small size wise,we had two seperate condensors running about six slim ducted units with feel cooling over two floors, and only being a single 240v supply to each system the install lads loved it.

Hi Pj

Actually its the other way around I have been to Sanyo Factory and The Tosh stuff comes off
Sanyo's production Line.

If you want to check the gas charge in the Sanyo VRf you will Need to bridge the check pins on the outdoor PCB for 4 secs and watch the system operating see the attached doc. The LED's on the outdoor PCB will blink in sequence after 30 mins operation to indicate correct/under/over charge.

With VRF the rated operating current would be at full load with very high ambient 43 C with ambients below this it is normal for the units to operate below its full load rated current.

Maybe try the above the next time you service the system.

Hope this helps
