Hi ive just been to see a vrf installation in Korea, it has 7654 fan coils connected to 1314 condensers. All in 3 tower blocks up to 64 stories high.

what i want to know is, is this the biggest VRF installationin the world? does anyone know of a bigger job?

In the Uk the biggest i Know is Holborn Gate, 660 fan coils on 80 condensers all r22 (1997 Daikin VRV G series) its so big you can see it on google maps search for Holborn Gate and zoom in
hey it took me 3 months to commission has anyone seen a bigger site in the UK?

regards

... it has 7654 fan coils connected to 1314 condensers...

What do you mean? Fan coils operates on water, VRF operates on refrigerant.

Pretty much anything with a fan and a coil is referred to as a 'fan coil' here in the UK.

Fan Coil units are also capable of operating with refrigerant. In such case the circuit shall be different.

However, try not to be a pedant.

What is the refrigerant per m^2 of floor area?
Are they still using R22?

I am not a pedant;) I think we use the same termins for different things (it's usual for people using loan-words). The misunderstanding took place:o

Hi Graham

How long did it take to install & commission?

the job took 2 years ro install, it went in as the building went up. In Korea as in the rest of far east outside Europe R22 is still king. i will post some pictures soon. Concentration per m2 was not high. the reason is the condensing units are mounted indoors on every floor they are specially designed for this type of installation (look up multi v space on the web for details) this allows the piperuns to be super short in this job most units were less than only 35m from the condenser.

go to this link for photos http://picasaweb.google.com/propernasty/Skycity
you can see a condenser indoors, , two of the 3 towers (64 stories)the grilles for the condenser on the outside of the building and a close up of the grilles on the outside. for more info contact me regards

Typically, a central AHU is provided for the fresh air requirement although local (heat exchange ventilation units) AHUs are not uncommon.

every flat has a fresh air unit with heat recovery element inside , this is ducted throughout the building. there is no room for a central AHU if there was they would have used this for the aircon.

In Brazil we have a similar installation in JK towers, around 5300 Fancoil units. Daikin VRF water cooled.
