Saw this calibrator at a client of me http://ametek.synkron3.uni2.dk/graphics/adminstrator/Spec_sheets/SS-CP-2282-US_screen.pdf about a free piston stirling cooler.
Did a search on the internet to find out how it works.
This is a good source http://www.globalcooling.com/howitworks.html

Hi peter.
At a heat pump course I was on, one of the guys on the course actualy built his own stirling engin.
I have a video clip of it and when I get back to the works PC I,ll post it.
It was a small two cylinder compressor powered from a parafin flame.
Marvelous device:)

Good site by the way thanks.
Cheers taz.
