 Hi All
My name is Glenn. I have worked in the industrial Air Conditioning industry since 1987. I am technical director of a medium size company in UK specialising in the “black art” of psychrometrics. We design and supply desiccant dehumidification systems for commercial and industrial applications (to minus 40°Cdp). The use of desiccant dehumidifiers for humidity control in cold stores and loading bays has increased over the past 5 years, so for what it’s worth, if you need help or advice I would be happy to share my experiences with you.

We 've installed some Munters in the past for the Belgium Army and did also the leak tests on the building. (air tightness)

Welcome Glenn.

"dark world of Psychrometrics" is right!

This is one topic that always leaves me asking more questions. I suppose it might help if I used it more often though.:o

Do you have any good recommendations for reading material? Thanks.

I got some info on this book. I am bout to order I believe came from a very knowledgeable person on another forum I check out.

"I would recommend Norm Christopherson's book "Airside System Analysis"

If interested...of course. I would like to hear Psychro's idea on this book or if he knows of it.

I think anyone with a background in desiccants could teach lama books a thing or two.

Welcome glenn, I live and breathe pyschrometrics myself.

Hi Glenn n Welcum

Can u give us a clue how u would use psycos to real practical situations. Many experts have tried but 2 arty farty for me! perhaps try some basics techs as i would really like to put theory onto site

Cheers mate

I'm not sure where the arty farty bit fits in, but if you're refering to "psychrometric charts" for "real practical solutions", we normally only use them to confirm our calculations for industrial process designs where there is air mixes in the system (typically pharmacuetical & confectionery processes). We also use charts to demonstrate the actual process in diagramatic form. Psychrometric charting software (PsychPro) is available from Linric (USA).

Hya

I have not read any of the Lama books so I'd be interested to know whether they are any good. It would appear (info from member "Abbey Normal") that Humidity Control Design Guide for Commercial And Institutional Buildings by L. Harriman; Hardcover; $136.00 from Amazon could be a good place to start as he has many years experience in desiccant technology and associated applications. Unfortunatley, as with most American engineering publications, the authors tend to use imperial units not metric, so us poor Brits tend to suffer from the lack of well written HVAC books.

Thanks for the info on the book. I'll have to investigate that one.

Oh come one.

Any book written in a different unit system does not make it bad. I have some books from the UK in SI that are very good. Although, I do have to read them carefully as I do not have the same "feeling" for SI as I do for IP.

There is one common thread to this however. There are a sortage of well written boks with good understandable and practical application info. In any unit system!:)

Hi! I am sanjay. I am also having my own company doing turn key cold store projects in India. We always face humidity problems in cold stores & have tried variety of things. But finally never tried Munters till date. Very Very Expensive. We tried to get more details on their projects if deon in South / Ease Asia region. They never came back on that. Now we have a chance to know more on that!!!!

Hi Sanjay

You're right - Munters do tend to be expensive. There are however a few other companies manufacturing desiccant dehumidifiers using silica gel rotors (long lifetime), so it's worth looking around on the web for the best deal.
