Hi Guys, We installed an a/c unit just under a year ago it has failed (started losing gas) and we have now pinpointed the leak to the condenser.
We have asked for a replacement outside unit but the thing is we are not happy about about having to bear the cost of labour, travel etc.
Should the suppliers be obliged to recompense us for this or is it just bad luck on us ? we have grinned and bore it before but what are the legal standings on this ? Cheers.

Check the terms and conditions section of the guarantee.

Ditto. It really depends on your suppliers warranty T&C. If they don't include for your T&M, then you need to be pricing a warranty factor into your work, imo.

This is why most of my friends have returned to trusted makes from dabbling with the cheap splits.

For non-consumers, like installers buying from manufacturers, guarantee is normally 12 months and does not cover refrigerant, oil and labour.
Parts are delivered ex-works, that means that you shall also take care of the shipment of the new part from factory to you, and return of the broken one to the factory for warranty coverage.
For consumers is different: if your customer is a consumer, than the warranty is 24 months all-inclusive.
In the middle, you as installer will lose a lot of money.

Depends on the supplier but you should be entitled to a set rate of recompence for your travel and labour.

Different suppliers do it differently but as a rule you bill them for the labour at a set rate and to a set amount.

If I good understend problem factory will give you compressor but want give you refrigerant, oil or paid work.
Solution is simple:
They can trick you twice.First and the last time.

Find someone sirious who belive in your scils and want to help.

too much hastle to claim the partial costs back, sign them up for maintainence and recoup some back that way, also have a word with the supplier or rep and tell him to do a good discount on the next bit of kit or you will swap to another make and supplier.

This is a sensible piece of advice.
