Hi

What would be the minimum qualification required legally to carry out earth loop impedence testing in a commercial property.

I have 16th edition trying to find out if I also need 2391 inspection and testing?

I'm not sure but can find out tommorow from the electrical bods at work if you want.

On another thought does the PAT test qual cover Earth loops.

No pa test certificate does not qualify you.

Hi Bernard,
I would have thought that if you've got 16th quallifications, then you should be competent enough to use a Loop Impedance/PSC meter. Presume you want to test the earth impedance for a new installed circuit, for the paperwork, or just check the integrity of the earth.
You do a reading at the distribution incomer and then another at you equipment connection point.

I use a 'Robin' unit that doesn't cause MCBs to trip.

Hi

No its not a new installation,we carry out earth loop impedance tests yearly for a customer.

I was curious as we have peole with different quals as to what is the minimum qual required.I contacted the colledge today and asked there advise.They advised that a compotent person was qualified however it depends on what the customers insurers have stated as the minimum requirements.

I,ve also booked myself in for a 2391 course inspecting and testing.
