Hi all,

we have a problem with one of our chillers, the evaporator..(water cooler) is blocked due to the poor quality of our water. We have recently invested in a new water treatment plant so hopefully this will never happen again.

The question I need answered from you inteligent guys & gals out there , is what chemical could I use to clean the cooler.

Many Thanks

The company that assisted you in getting your new water treatment plant should be able to assist you in your chiller cleaning. It depends on how "blocked is blocked" a good brushing might do the trick or might not:( We had a similar problem where I work and after testing samples of the stuff in the tubes we found silica so we had to acid wash and also brush it, time consuming but had to be done.
Ensure that your new treatment system is right for your type of water,we had mis diagnosed and over time was treating for one thing when it wasnt what was required.
lot of money had to be spent and is still spending to get our system back on track.:D

Problem is with the type of chiller.... we can not get access to the tubes on the water circuit... it will have to be cleaned with chemicals circulating through it.... but thanks I will contact the company that did our water treatment plant and see what they have to say.

Look once at http://www.refrigeration-engineer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2619&highlight=brushes.
No chemicals, just automatic brushes.

There are over the counter chemical solutions that should deal with this problem. I think that caustic soda is a popular solution to most build ups in water cooled systems.

Cheers taz.
