Discharge Superheat

Welcome to the RE forums.

For the discharge superheat you use a similar process as finding the suction superheat, except you want to use the discharge data from the compressor.

Discharge pressure and temperature.

What else are you looking for, and why I suppose?

The reason I ask is this...
I work on Chillers all the time, and some of them are required to be charged by Discharge Superheat. This is something that, untl approx 5 years ago, I had never seen.
I can find nothing on it in the way of explanations (until Brian_UK offered the link) as to why it is significant and how/why it changes with changing conditions.
I'm the kind of guy that needs to know why as well as how heh.

Sounds like flooded chillers.;)

The discharge superheat is a good technique to have in your bag of tricks. You need to know this for screw compressors to prevent oil dilution problems, and it comes in handy for troubleshooting leaking discharge valves on recip. compressors too.
