New to the forum, lurked for a couple days looking for an answer to my problem and couldn't find it so here goes...

I'm looking for reasons of an 05G Carrier belt driven compressor to fail. I have seen three of these, 2 had broken rods and the crank was scored, main brg. area looked good. My guess is flooding? The heads and valves were cooked, pistons also looked black, like it was an engine not a compressor. The un-loading valves still worked. I have no control in instalation or rebuilding I'm just the failure anaylsis guy.

The third compressor wiped out the front main brg. and wore the crankshaft 0.040, the rod brgs. also wore. Looks like lack of oil. Oil pump was worn slightly. My guess here is the unit wasn't rebuilt correctly and someone didn't line bore the front main brg.. Or like an engine vibration damper slipped was running out of balance and wiped out the brg. but the clutch looks good.

Any help you guys and I see a girl or two can give me would be much appreciated.

Oh.. almost forgot the application is in a bus using R-22.
