Condensor freez up

Hi guys
I have problem whit condensor on a/c unit its aicing up ,checked gas level ok. What is the best way to check revrcing valve i know by resictence bat what should be reading on my multi meter?

Come on Wolf, give us a clue, what make and model of unit is it ?

You say that the gas charge is OK and then suspect the reversing valve; are the temperature across the reversing valve OK, does the slide operate ?

Maybe I am not right but...

It is winter time now in Autralia, you use you A/C for heating. It is very easy to have too much humidity and your condenser/evaporator is frozen.

Maybe your defrost function is not working properly...

Sounds like a defrost problem then Wolf.

yes, how do you know, unless you weighed the gas out ? i am sure they dont have sight glasses and to say the gas is ok off pressures, they tell me you shouldnt do that?

It's normal to see some frost on condensor coils in the heat pump mode below 35 deg. just befor it drops into defrost. If the system is charged properly than the coil will defrost in a couple of minutes. In high humid areas the melting frost can accumalate at the bottom of the condenser and refreeze. Check to see that the unit is elevated high enought for the water to leave the unit and holes in the bottom are clear of leaves or trash so water can drain free. If this is all good than the problem is the defrost controller or the thermister.

Never charge to a full sight glass without taking pressure/temperature readings to confirm your opinions.
