How many diffrent kinds of propane is there ? I have just brought 25kg of r290 care40. But i can't read eny "R" number or care40 on the cylinder?. But the supplyer claims that it is r290 care40. But it don't belive it. It is acting wery strange on the system, and for some reason it is only in gas form in the cylninder?...

Care40 is R290. And 25Kg will not fit in gas phase, so it is liquid.

Yes i know that. I asked for R290 But i am not sure of it is the right gas, they sold me. And i am also pretty sure of it is only i gas phase. Know some propane is been used for welding/cutting purpuse...But i don't know if thats the cylinder i have. But it is defintly NOT pure R290

Don't use it.

If it is refrigerant quality Hydrocarbon, it will have the R No:plus the CAS No:on the cylinder.

Ordinary propane will not have the required quality and most likely conatoin a lot of H2O.

I would ask the company who sold it to you for some more info such as safety data sheets. cylinders should be clearly marked and it sounds like yours is not what it is has been described as.

Speaking of Propane, With the expected price increases announced today by British Gas, would it be financially advantageous to convert the household appliances to run on Calor? Anyone done any sums?

Seems wierd cooking potatoes with refrigerant :D

Care40 is refrigerant grade propane, so no prob with that. If the reseller put anything else inside, I don't know. If unsure, burn it on the BBQ

Hi ConDor

Try to measure the pressure by a stabilazed temperature,
this would give you a pretty good information.
I have for long time ago ordered R600A but got R290 instead so i always make a pressure test of the refrigerant.

Best regards

Care 40 is indeed refrigerant grade propane (R290), it's got less moisture and non-condensables than barbecue grade propane.
