Hello people,
It has just come to my attention that a company is advertising a position as HVAC engineer in the Sinai. I have previosly held this position. If anybody would like the rundown on this (Both good and bad) before applying just let me know. I held this position and there are things you should be aware of if you are going to make this move.

I am not interested in the position, Micha1, but why not share your experience with the group? It should be entertaining at worst and enlightening at best. :)

Ok no probs.
Where do I start?........
To describe Sharm in the Sinai, it's a paridise, Year round sun, fantastic coral reefs, one of the worlds best dive sites. ALCOHOL!:) tourists (women);) Quad bikes, sailing, ALCOHOL!:) fantastic scenery, history. You name it, it's there.
I jumped at the chance. Not to be missed. The guy on the phone said "don't look on it as a contract, see it as a career move. you relocate and enjoy the lifestile" Ok the money was c*!p but what the hell look at the fun.
So you start work with some really great Brits, to find that the whole setup is run on a shoe string budget, few tools, fewer spares, big transport probs, local labour with no idea (who try realy hard and respect you, if you can convince them that there realy is a reason why you earn twenty times as much as them, apart from being British) Managment with a similar problem (The no idea bit) your accomadation is a pigsty. Oh and the job is great if you want to spend a bit of time looking after 1500 window rattlers 20 baby splits 10 small cold rooms. (this place is not to be even mentioned on your CV if you want another job) A site manager who reads every trade mag he can find, and then trys to bully you with the latest piece of rot that he has just read (Thinking that he has just impressed) It goes on.
Alright! what about the good bits?
The afore mentioned Brits really are a great bunch, they have their own bar which is to be experienced (recomended if you have no, or would like no liver:)). Your own private beach, to be shared with anything from 10 to 50 screaming grunts:mad: all trying to impress both of the resident females. Slight exageration 500 guys 15 girls (13 female grunts)
No problem leave the camp and go get some of the local fun (Sharm Red Sea Riviera) Pubs, casino's, beaches, women, diving, and fun.
No problem, just let the relevent authorities know what time you are going, returning, not later than whatever the latest rule is. who you will be with (Oh yeah you can't go out on your own.) This is for security because you can't be trusted on you own. this is called "The buddy system" If you get the chance to go diving this all becomes clear, but I doubt you will.:(
I could go on for ever, but need my sleep. If anybody would like more specific advise please ask.
Sorry but you did ask.
M.
