I have a friend in the industry who has been told by his wholesaler supplier that some new refrigerant can be added to 404a systems when there is still 404a in the system ie to top it up? I will try to find the number, has anyone heard of this refrigerant seems wrong to me but I am old school, anybody been informed of this?

I would not try.
There is a big difference between a blend and a mixture, those refrigerants you have to charge with upside down container are the worst.
Had once a mistake and added 22 to a 507 system [containers color are almost the same.] It worked fine so I left it but no way i would do that on purpose.
