Hello all,

hope you all had a good Christmas and have a great new year.

I have a quick question, a friend of my wife's has a disabled daughter who keeps breaking the door handles off of her fridge and emptying the contents of the unit.

I don't know domestic fridge so I can't offer any advice so I'm hoping someone on here has some, basically they have asked if there is any kind of lock for a domestic unit that they can fit so her daughter cannot access the fridge, she has tried the little child locks and these are no good.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

They need to make up some brackets to fit on either side of the fridge door and then have a locking bar fitted across the door.

.

Under no circumstances should she attempt to
drill the fridge door frame. Domestic fridges
very rarely have a facility to fit a door lock because
of child safety (child locking themselves inside).

I would look on eBay, Gumtree or other selling site
and buy a commercial fridge. They come with a door
lock and it might work out cheaper in long run.

If they insist on doing a lock on the domestic, advise
them to glue a hasp and staple on with araldite rapid
and then just pop a combination lock into it.

If you need specific help drop me a PM and I can talk
you through any questions you - she may have.

As rob points out a lock on a fridge door definitely a no no,would it be best to secure the room where it's located?

Im not 100% sure on where it is located to be honest, i know the lady has trouble with her daughter going through the fridge, but yes i did suggest that the room should be secured rather than the fridge.

I know what you mean and i have seen this done on commercial fridge, but i have never seen it on domestic units.

Thanks for your advice

RikOnly suggested it as the commercial padlock units all seem to have an adhesive pad fixture.
