Further Education Advice

Like everyone else here my background Is in Ref&AC. The advice I'm looking for is where to go from here? Has anyone gone onto 3rd level and if so to study what? I'm looking into things like Mechatronics or Electrical engineering but I'd appreciate the chance to talk to anyone who has walked the path before so to speak.

The Open Uni do general engineering courses, their not bad but none of the practical.

allaboutcircuits .com is quite good for basic electrical/electronics theory if thats of any interest.
