Hi Guy's,

Need some advice on installing A/C in a Church.

My calculations work out to 33kw of A/C required for this given job.

This is fine, I can put 2 10KW splits at each end of the building.

My Problem comes in on Heating. As you all know hot air rises.
Church has a 10m ceiling. The lowest point I can put the indoor unit is 3.5-4m high.
I'm worried that the units willl cut out on t/stat before the lower area of the church is actually warm.

Maybe I can source a remote temp sensor and mount it at 2m below the indoor units?
But will the units be running non-stop to heat the desired occupied area?

Different indoor units will cope with this issue in different ways.
The problem with temperature differential at different heights is often referred to a stratification. Most manufacturers will have a "destratification" offset built in to their control logic, this means that in heating the set point the unit is looking for is 3-5K above the set point displayed on the controller. Some manufacturers (for example Samsung) even let you adjust this offset to fine tune the unit to suit the actual installation.

The best thing you can do is to look in the technical data books and installation manuals to ensure you follow the manufacturer's guidelines on installation heights. Also worth looking at for installations like this is the throw, will the units you propose to install be able to blow the air in to the centre of the church?

But yes, sometimes remote sensors are the best solution.

If you are installing 10kw wall mounts I would just also spec hard wired remote controllers (maybe 1 per indoor unit, locate each remote at approx 1.5m) and change the setting to read from the thermistor built into the controller.

Can you also install ceiling fans to push the warm air downwards?

My concern at 10 metre high on provision it's a stone wall church 33 kws is that enough if stone wall places are like a fridge ?

How many people are at 10 meters high?

If there is no one there, why should you heat or cool that space?

Because our churches are colder than a coldroom and all the heat disappears upwards
