Getting rid of r22 reclaimed gas

Living on this little island , I've just heard that our local boc agent will no longer take r22 for shipping to uk for processing.
Can you folk in the uk still take it to boc or somewhere like A gas.
we managed to ship out our gas that we had. For ages whilst the powers that be talked and waffled then. Raised the necessary paper work .
We are expected to act in a responsible manner, attend. Fgas training and re newal .
Then the last link in the chain snaps.

Not sure on this point,not recycled any r22 for years would like to know clarification ,up to the stage Rob white Brian and more of our learned colleagues!

BOC will probably take R22 back and charge a destruction cost.
A-Gas have just taken a quantity of R22 back from us and hopefully will not charge for the destruction, it may depend on the quantity that you have to return.
Obviously somewhat more awkward for you being based on Jersey.

We only have boc in jersey.
I have yet to go there and hear from the horses mouth. As to why the are not doing it any more.
there are still r22 units. Around and are slowly rotting away till they break.
So it could take a while to gather up 50kg to fill a bottle .

I would think any organization working with reclaiming used refrigerant would be bound by law or legislation to take whatever you have, be it a full/half full of liquid, or pressurized container, since the alternative is lesser people than you just opening the valve and letting it go to atmosphere...

Boc jersey , only import virgin gas. And there is. No problem shipping the empty bottle back to the uk.
the problem arises when it's used refrigerant with trace or more oil in it, burt out acidic , and maybe a dash of dye in it too..
It then becomes hazardous waste.
honestly this saga has rolled on for years.
i used to get bottles for reclaiming from boc ,till the jersey agent discovered that they did not have what was needed. To raise paperwork .
And as the civil service and government became involved. It went tits up totally till last year.
When the ball finally got rolling we got rid of our backlog of bottles full of gas after boc sent out fresh ones to transfer to.
We have no shortage of bottles to store gas in.
But in the end it needs to go the correct place to be delt with.
Venting is not a option.
nor is burying the bottle in the back garden.

Right good news or bad news?

Good news is I have found out some information.
Bad news it won't help make it easier :-)

Any waste moved across a boundary (country to country)
needs a licence agreement from both sides, so from the Channel Islands
to England needs a licence agreement from both the Channel Islands and
the EPA.

Days of paperwork for just one cylinder.

I imagine BOC have just said stuff it..........

No help to you whatsoever, I know but it has come
from two independent sources by people I trust working
for different companies.

Hi Rob,

Yes you can transport refrigerant to and from Jersey.

When it comes to standard cylinders we send them via DSV and we need to fill in a dangerous goods note for the customs and pay a dangerous goods surcharge. It is the same procedure when you return empty cylinders
to the UK.

It gets more complicated when it comes to recovery / receiver cylinders. There is a scheduled transport twice a year and you need to arrange it via the BOC agent in Jersey named Normans. You need to schedule a time with them to drop the cylinder off. You pay them for holding the cylinder and for sending it onward (it is very expensive). If you miss your drop off slot you cannot drop it any other day and you have to arrange it all again. You also are not allowed to mix gas when returning recovery bottles. If it is mixed gas in the bottle there is another transport once a year with a similar procedure but much more expensive.

As usual some one feels that we are all millionaires in jersey.
i wonder if it's boc with the. Huge fee or Normans. The agent .
we do not buy. Virgin gas from them as they are too expensive..

yearly would be ok as we have plenty of dedicated holding. Bottles for most gasses.
