View Full Version : Modifying a Hotpoint RLA36 for kegerator

Hi folks,

Been asked to modify a Hotpoint RLA36 to take a 11 gal larger keg ! lol

Initial plan was to cut the door about and make up a new panel with a bulge in it, but possibly looking at chopping it half and making a middle spacer.

Apart from the thermostat capillary tube (removable) in the top, and the cable for light/thermostat, as anyone any idea where the chiller side of the heat exchanger is ?

Initially thought it might just run in the back, but looks like it might be possibly be in the side.

Anyone any idea ?

After further investigation, the way the pipes are routed to internal and external heat exchangers, it might be possible to remove the compressor and swing it round 90 degrees without any undue pipe stress and having to drain and re-charge the gas.

Then the plastic bulge inside at the bottom could be chopped away and replaced with new plastic/foam.

This still all depends on where the internal pipes are located, if anyone has any idea ?

Why does the door need cutting? Usually lager barrels stand vertically. New Kegerator on amazon is between £300/£400 so not sure its worth the effort adapting something that then may not work as required.

Apparently, no standard under-counter fridge is large enough to take a commercial standard 11gal keg.

I ow the guy a favor, so mine is not to reason why :)
He did say the cheapest a new kegerator that a commercial size keg would fit it was £500

If the bulge inside, over which the compressor is located wasn't there, it would fit fine.

Re-siting the compressor 6" behind, cutting the bulge out then lining/foam spray would appear the easiest way to get the keg to fit in.

Just have no idea on where Hotpoint stick the cooling coils in a RLA36 and don't really want to accidentally cut through it !
