View Full Version : Help a fellow engineer with his thesis

hello
i am currently working on my thesis and i am in need of a little help.

I am making a Rankine Cycle and i am using as fluids the following:
R134a - R290 (propane) - R600 (n-butane) - R141b - R142b - RC318 - R218


First question: It there a big problem with me choosing R600 instead of R600a? The net is full of data for R600a but next to none for R600

Second question: I am currently trying to find data for my chosen fluids. These data are their Ozone Depletion Potential ( ODP) , Global Warming Potential ( GWP) and their toxicity levels ( A1-A3,B1-B3). Unfortunately i have only found what i was looking for only for R134a,R141b & R142b.

It would be a great deal of help to point me to where i can find the rest.
Note that i am going to need a link and not just a reply since i need to include it in the references.

Thirdly: The Rankine cycle will work between the values of 20-90 Celsius to produce electrical energy. If you have any recommendations for other fluids i will glaly hear them

Forgot to say...how are you using the Rankine cycle to produce electricity?

What is the world coming to when the supposed rocket scientists are asking trades people how to do it.
best response would be get out of your safety zone and get your delicate hands dirty and experience the trade.

You should check the last version of EN 378 and ISO 817 (https://standards.cen.eu/dyn/www/f?p=CENWEB:110:0::::FSP_ORG_ID,FSP_PROJECT:6163,36620&cs=1085B90837B1082C91824E938F3BAEE20) for the accepted levels of GWP, ODP and toxicity level .

About the differences between R600 and R600a, as the bubble point at atmosphere pression of R600 (buthane) is -0.5ºC it is almost not used for refrigeration. In comparison R600a (isobuthane) as a bubble point of -11.7ºC and is less inflamable then buthane.
