I have read a couple of threads that have treated this problem but they are both 6 years or older.
i am hoping that in these last few years some of you have successfully resolved what is a very common problem in countries where R600a is not readily available.

R600a is isobutane which differs from R600 which is butane and is basically the gas used to fill cigarette lighters.
I would like to use a substitute for R600a by making the absolute minimum alterations to the R600a system.

Some articles indicate that you can just drop R134a and replace the mineral oil with R134a oil.
has anyone used other gases? For example butane or propane?
