Hi guys, I have a 1.5 hp condensing unit that was in a self contained salad bar for about a week. The customer wisely decided to remote this with another case and this unit has been in storage for two years. It was pumped down.

My question; How best may I test this compressor without installing it into a system?

As always thanks for your input.

If its still got refrigerant in it you could connect it to a clean and empty recovery cylinder and use it as an evaporator. If its empty and you just want to see it still runs and pumps, then you could put some nitrogen in and pump that round, just keep an eye on the pressures.

You can ensure the suction is fully closed and run it.
Before you do connect a low side gauge on it to see if the compressor pulls down to a vacuum.
Should pull down to 25 inches and hold to be still good.

If it was running ok before it was stopped, it will be fine now.

Only check the fan motor.
