View Full Version : Air flow for ice storage system

Does any one had details on providing air flow in the ice store room. What we had seen is some Gi sheets were used all around the room mounted on wooden pieces to provide gaps all around the room including bottom side. The cooling unit air then flows all over the room even below & ice lumps are avoided.

But that may be a crude design.

what type of ice are you storing, general rule is store at temperature slightly below at what ever temperature it comes out of ice maker, store at too low temperature it will end up as one big frozen lump., in bags or bins what ever. Air flow is important as well, racking systems are good for air movement around palletized products. Do not mix flake ice storage with tube ice storage as each is made at different temperatures.
Can you explain the Gi what evers everywhere ?

For ice storage rooms, one needs to provide gratings type structure inside to maintain air flow all across the ice. Or else the bottom ice forms lumps. We have seen companies using Galvanized corrugated sheets on four walls & floor which keeps gap for cooling unit air circulation.

At the same time , due to ice load the floor/ walls can get damaged.

May be there is a better way of putting up such gratings to maintain proper air flow all around.

How much flake ice are you intending to store?
is it a manual or mechanical unloading system?
