Absolutely outstanding HVACRsaurus. Go to the top of the class. Thank you for that brilliant information.

I had a look through this website and found this thread which is now closed.

http://www.refrigeration-engineer.com/forums/showthread.php?25665-Electronic-Expansion-Valve

On the second last post the is mentions of a Service Bulletin SPSB03008.
Would anyone know where I could get my hands on that?

It appears I will shortly have the same issue as the guys in the other thread. The McQuay chiller I will be working on has an Alco EX8 fitted to each circuit, with one going faulty.
There are flanged connections on either side of the old EX8, but apparently the new EX8 is brazed on.
So be nice to get a look at the bulletin.

Thanks again HVACRsaurus.

Happy to hear it, Ta

Pretty much anything you'd want to know about the EX8 is here;

Personally, if I was faced with changing one I'd look at retrofitting it to something else.... Maybe Danfoss ICV / ICS combination - various controllers, comprehensive signalling, field serviceable valve insert, removable / replaceable stepper motor & manual opening provision (no affiliation, ps the early ones were sh1t but the "new" ones pretty darn good... Albeit expensive, but good..)

Pps, service bulletin pretty much say - sorry guys old on is Union but new one is solder, TFB (say this with Borat accent)
