Hi all,

Could anybody please advise if there is a legal requirement in the UK for chillers to be fitted with PRV's? The chillers in question are liquid to liquid reversible units which DO NOT have receivers in them. There are 2 circuits inside the units running on R410a, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Oceanlab,
standard anywhere is if HX or vessel containing refrigerant can be isolated with valves then said vessels have to have safety relief valves set to vessel design pressure/temperature maximum rating.

Thanks Magoo, there are no isolation valves anywhere on these units, so I guess they are ok running without PRV's then:cool:

All pressure systems in the UK fall under the Pressure Directive Regulations if they operate above 0.5Bar. PRV's are mandatory and must be replaced on a regular basis...
Here's a link to some relevant information http://www.hse.gov.uk/pressure-systems/law.htm

Thanks you Frank, that makes interesting reading. I am going to contact the company pressure systems AE tomorrow and bring this to his attention
