Hi everyone....I recently took a trip to Florida to move a heat pump for my Daughter. I visited a parts shop there and overheard a conversation about a newer refrigerant on the shelf. It's a drop in for 12 or 134a and no EPA license required??? Does anyone know about this? I forget the #'s on the can. Cheaper then 134a! I would like to do some research on this gas so, if anyone has the numbers, please let me know. Thanks!

Some of the new 'drop-in' replacements have HCs included with HFCs.

There are all sorts of mixtures coming out of the woodwork these days.

R290 is propane, R600 is butane, obviously both are flammable. Probably a hydrocarbon blend if there is a suggestion that it skirts around some EPA rules. No way to say any more without knowing its name or number, but there are a number of these things around, make sure you know what you're getting into!
