Foster GSC1/2H probes

Hi, can anyone tell me what type of probes are fitted to the Foster GSC1/2H under counter stainless chiller. It has an Elm controller model 190979 fitted. It's a 1997 model.

Recall Elm stuff in supermarkets worked off a yellow Tek probe which is 2k.

Manual mentions replacing coil probe with resistor and fitting overload for electric defrost models, page 8.

Guess some were getting a tad hot!

Any NTC probe should be fine; elliwell provide one or two every time you buy an ID controller; I'm sure you'll have hanging about in your workshop!

To confirm; from the foster spares website it describes the probe as Tp002k. A quick search for Tp002k on google find the following result

I hope it may help as the parts page says there is no evap probe fitted on the (2H) high temp version!

It's the controller that's at fault. The probe resistance is correct for the temperature but the controller display is way out. As its an old controller I think the easy way out is to replace it with current Eliwell/Dixel type

Have you read the manual accessed using Tayters link?

Only there are probe offset options mentioned within it!
They may just correct your temp discrepancy?

Fosters web site is very good - just do a spare parts look up using the cabinet serial number (e........), it'll bring up all the exploded diagrams and parts list including any upgrades etc. Also you can access the relevant service manuals for the type of control fitted. Foster do tend to use very specific probes, sometimes different resistances to generic probes that engineers would have on the van. I get the impression they want to to buy all spares from them directly for some reason:confused:

The probe reads 40C but measures 12000 Ohms which, according to the info on the inside of the cabinet is -20C. The probe is lodged in a now-frozen coil.
When I connect a standard NTC probe and let it dangle outside the cabinet it reads -25C.
In the programming section the probe offset only goes to 7k so that's not enough to adjust the huge difference.

Looks like a 2k ntc probe from the fosters website?

Couldn't you cut an eliwell id chill or similar into the panel, and do a bit of a rewire if cost is an issue, or just order the bits direct form Foster or a spares reseller?

If the resistance of your probe is correct, then its possible the controller is faulty though?
