I am not sure whether this attached Photo will down load.
So I will give it a try before explaining.
Yep it works!

Anyways this is what a cooler (Loading bay at +2.c) can look like when the filters (removed to display ice build up!) have needed changing for a while.

PLUS the coolers bespoke defrost control software throws a wobbly!
The other 3 coolers were ok despite the filters being a couple of weeks overdue.

I just though I would post for some who may not get to see how these Industrial coolers can Ice up.

In a cold store Iced up coolers will give huge suction pressure problems.
To the point where Engineers have over charged systems thinking it is short of Gas!
Low Suction Pressure is not always an indication of gas shortages!

If applicable check your cooler conditions first and (on a Chiller)
Check your water flows.

Interesting stuff! Does it run cleanable filters or are they disposable?

Hi MS.
There disposable and on a change out routine.
Their cleanliness is relevant to the store throughput below them.
But we try to change them on a set time rate.
In this instance the change was overdue and We discovered as I said the control software for the defrost "Hung Up", so it was not defrosting.

Its the first time I see filters on cooler evaporator. What on earth for? They block the air movement, collecting dirt.

It is much easier and cheaper to wash the evaporator on a regular intervals.
At this time of the year when ambient is dropping very low, the condenser fans pressure control have to be checked for keeping good head pressure.

Another and maybe the best way to avoid freezing on large evaporators is using EEV to keepmevaporating temp above freezing. [it can save a few compressors]

You must move with the times Chemi!
For coolers that are positive Temp I.e. like these at +2 /+3c and on a loading bay.
Filters are all the rage now!
Consultants love them, especially the Green ones! I don't think they would be so keen if they saw the crap they collect.
The 32 (4 coolers with 8 filters each) and the 240 filters in the +2c chill store 3 buildings down (4 large and 4 small coolers) are changed around every 8 weeks.

Ask anyone who has worked in cold stores about concrete dust mixed with cardboard and wood pallet dust!
It's an interesting mix that if it gets wet sets like concrete.
So a sacrificial filter is a much better option that clogging cooler fins.
It is not such a problem at sub Zero temps and fitting filter as you suggest would be madness!

Never!
being self employed, I have the privilege to choose my clients. When I see a structure that i don't agree with, I give two options, changing it to the way I think it should be or move on.
I only do small cold storage units, mainly for cheese maturing small boutique manufacturers and the rest is low temp CO2 large containers up to 400 tons,.
Basicly I don't do much as i import the units and just connecting a few pipes and some electric cables.
Filters I only have on my van's AC unit.:D
