Called to faulty degreaser that had lost its charge, Smell from refrigerant suggesting failing windings. Changed compressor for identical one, charged unit to correct weight of refrigerant but unit goes into retard on gauges ,Any ideas.

Some more information would be nice. If your using Yellow jacket manifold the retard is max pressure of low pressure gauges.

Where was the leak? Blockage?
