Hi all, I was asked to look at an a/c unit (not really my area of expertise but its for a friend) the indoor unit ash9lsbcw goes to alarm after a minute or so after start up in cool mode. The led alarm sequence are as follows 0.5sec 5 times operation 0.1sec blinking timer then in test mode 0.1sec blinking operation 0.5sec 2 times timer. According to the service manual means "current trip error is 2nd time in start up".
My friend is set on replacing the unit but I said I would find out if it is worth trying to repair it.
Any input is appreciated.

Hi Carl,

Error code means IPM taking too much current. Be worth confirming fan motor spins, coil clear, EEV initialises on power up, service valves open and refrigerant in system as well as checking compressor windings and inverter output.
