was just wondering what is the safest and most ideal way of testing a HP switch on e.g a Medium sized Bitzer reciprocating, iv heard of people using hand pump items but do they work ? and how dangerous to close the discharge service valve and checking if the HP will trip? Thanks

Or you can switch it off and pump it with OFN till the HP trips.

Hi ibrahimus.
If this is for the insurance / written scheme then talk to the Insurance assessor.
Most are quite happy to note the operating HP pressure and allow you to lower the HP set point towards operating.
Noting the actual trip point for their records, some like you elevate away from normal running prior to tripping.
Which can easily be done as Frank advises by dropping out some or all of the fan fuses / MCB's.

If this is for your company files then you decide what option to use?
Please note that mechanical HP switches can be a bitch to reset.
The nicer and usually acceptable way if system control software permits is to lower the software HP setting. To slightly above NWP. and raise to meet.
With so many options one should fit?
