Does any model of VOGT tube ice machine require 500 lbs of r22? Not sure of model number, will get it tomorrow, but I smell bull____. $18,000 to replace 30hp compressor? Used 500lbs r22? Come on! What do you think about these numbers?

Where did the old R22 go? it could have been put back in after the compressor change i would think.
Seems a lot of refrigerant, but i am not familiar with the equipment to know. Maybe worth calling Vogt and asking their tech department.

Hi MS
Could have had a leak and this could have contributed to the compressor failure. We are only getting the end result from Zpoint. Is the $18k for compressor, refrigerant, labour etc, if so probably OK, just the R22 alone would be way more then that in Aust.

Paul

Indeed. We are only getting one side of the story, though 500lbs seems a lot of refrigerant for a system with 30hp compressor, but as i said i am not familiar with the equipment nor all the steps that were necessary to make the repair.

A 20 Tonne Vogt with flooded vertical barrel will hold truck loads of liquid, in HX and add system liquid as well. The HX vertical probably 4 metres high and 1.2 metres diameter.
System likely to have multi compressors, so clean up cost and replacement of failed compressor plus top up R22, sounds like a reasonably priced job.
