Hi there,

I am looking for different Constructers of CA/MA Units for Containers to compare them.

The biggest ones will be Carrier EliteLINE (http://www.container.carrier.com/details/1,,CLI1_DIV9_ETI655,00.html) and Thermoking Magnum (http://thermoking.com/products/product/magnum.asp?mn=magnum&pg=image&cat=7) for CA or Transfresh (http://www.transfresh.com/index.asp) for MA. Another one (much smaller) is Cargofresh (http://www.cargofresh.com) (together with Noske Kaeser).

What is about enterprises like MAERSK, KLINGE, DAIKIN, FINSAM, SEACOLD, MITSUBISHI, SABROE REEFER COOL...?

Do they have own units or do they only build the containers and get the CA units from TK/Carrier for example?

Regards,
reeferman

I haved asked DAIKIN and I got an answer:

DAIKIN LXE10E can install TransFRESH (MA) device as an option.
However, We are afraid that we do not have CA machine.

Hi reeferman,
I work in the reefer container industry and have done for a number of years. The manufacturer of reefer machines, (with a few exceptions) are separate from the manufacturers of the reefer boxes. In fact boxes are mainly manufactured in China these days. The exception at one time was Seacold which was owned by Seacontainers and who manufactured both sections. (They were bought out by Carrier a number of years ago and the box manufacture side disappeared with the rest being amalgamated into the main Carrier operation). Recently Maersk have started to build both boxes and machines marketing the machinery under the Starcool name. Klinge's original operation in Denmark was taken over by Sabroe reefer cool who in turn were taken over by Thermo King so those two makes are now historic although I understand that a member of the Klinge family still produces limited numbers of Klinge reefer container machines for specialist use such as oil rigs etc. Finsam were only a very small manufacturer and as far as i am aware have not manufactured a reefer machine for a number of years andI have never seen a CA or MA Finsam machine. At present that leaves us with Carrier, Thermo King, Daikin and Mitsubishi all of whom offer some form of CA and MA equipment for fitting to standard reefer boxes although I would imagine that Maersk will not be far behind. The MA and CA equipment you describe is specified by the customer at the time of ordering the machinery be it Carrier ot TK or who ever and made by the manufacturer of the machinery. The Cargofresh system looks to me like a development of the original "Freshtainer" system which if you look closely is a modified Thermo King unit. Freshtainer were the original company who built CA reefer units with at first their own machinery then modifying TK. This was about 17-18 years ago and in this industry at the time was quite advanced. Not completely sure if answers any of your questions but may give an insight into the background of CA and MA and the reefer container industry.

Hi Iankp,

you gave me a good background of this industry. Thank you very much.
This information helps me to go on with my research about CA/MA which I need for my diploma thesis.

Hello Iankp,

You have a great deal of information regarding CA and MA reefer Containers. There is a good requirement of these containers in our country and I have tried to contact the local agents of Thermoking and the local office of Carrier for the equipments. Both had assured to get in topuch with me with the informations of their product, but have not till now.

I am in the field of refrigeration and have installed a good number of Cold Rooms and Storages for Food processing, Ice Cream and Agricultural produce pre cooling and storage in our country. Could you please guide me as to what should be the drive of the compressor be in reefer containers.

Further could you provide a bit more details on these reefer containers so that if be required I may start assembling the refrigeration system, and get the containers from the manufacturers as well as the CA system.

With best wishes, Samarjit

Starcool has lauched a Starcare unit for CA. I´ve seen shipments from Peru and results are the same as Evefresh but for a much cheaper price equipment.

Starcare is a CA too. An air pump forces the intake through a membrane separator , similar than the Everfresh.

Star Care uses a vacuum pump with membrane for CO2 reduction, fresh air intake for O2 increase and uses cargo respiration for O2 reduction. Very simple and cost effective but optimised for higher respiring commodities.
Carrier Everfresh has big air compressor, heater, drier, expensive membrane and the CA option costs as much as the reefer machine, so doubles the price.
...but onlt Maersk have the Star Care units while other lines, (incl. Maersk) have Everfresh.
