Using our new toy, a Fluke thermal camera, I came across this panel running a bit warm. The panel`s for a 117Kw motor. We can`t open it to check inside as yet as the standby motor is not in service at present. This way, at least, we can monitor it on a regular basis.

Can you post picture (if you have) of heat exchanger temperature distribution!
What model of camera is that?

Hi Glenn
cannot read temperature scale on pic., but good to see the isolator above is tagged and locked out, all be it with a cable tie, padlocks are safer.

Hi Magoo. The isolator you mention is a redundant one. The one in question is isolated at the motor itself with a padlock and lockout tags. One thing we can`t do on this site is cut corners on safety. Oh, the temp is 56.6c just at the top of the panel about halfway up.

I`ll try and post some other pics of plant to give an idea of what can be picked up on it

Two more images taken. The first is a Daikin VRV and you can see the heat is dissipated evenly across the condenser proving there`s no fouling or problems with cooling air flow. I`ve chosen "picture in picture" mode as this enables you to easily recognize the plant you`re looking at.
The second photo has actually highlighted a problem on a steam safety valve that is letting by. The bright colour you see is the pipe from the valve to the roof. The advantage of these cameras is you can scan an area from a distance away without having to climb ladders or scaffolding etc. It`s a Fluke Ti32 by the way.
Good software comes with it so you can generate good looking reports.
Hope this helps.

Glenn

Here`s an update on the photo of the panel. We opened it up and found this. Not far off burning out and
shutting down the site boiler and production1187711878

Interesting, I had a Fluke i7 till it was stolen. Wondering why you thought the Ti32 was worth the money, compared to the cheaper ones.

Hi mbc it`s a Fluke Ti32 I`m not sure what features the cheaper ones have but with this one we can generate reports and edit pictures etc.
The following photos give an example of what kind of report can be made. It has various photo editing features including picture in picture that not only shows the I/R image but also the original one so as to make the identification of the equipment in question easier. 118831188411885
