Just wondered if anyone had come accross .
mushroomed suction service port nuts , the ones that cover the open and shut allen key access.
i used to tjink they had been over tightened.
but now i am not so sure.
my idea is that as the suction freezes ( comms room unit).
moisture tracks past the threads into the void of the valve and inside of the nut.
and over a period of time ,gets to the point where. The flat face of the nut fractures.
or am i barking up the tree.
Its rzq dakin unit.

I'd go with the over tightened theory...it would take hell of an ice ball to crack it..never come across a cracked one myself - flare nuts, yes, but service valve covers...no

Got a picture,
Formation of Ice is very powerful, would have to be around - 15 deg C to expand though.
If you filled with grease or similar would keep water out, messy though!
