3000 btu/hr is a little under 1 kW. That is exceptionally small for an AC machine.

I don't know of a commercial unit that small.
You can buy small portavble plug-in air con machines in most DIY sheds in the Uk, but they start at about 2.5kW.

It may help if you gave us an idea of what you want to do with it.

If you are living in a rented flat then you should be looking for something you can plug into the mains and take with you when you leave.
2 options come to mind
1 a portable or "mobile" unit
2 a "window rattler"

search the internet for portable air conditioning units

paul. It's an a/c unit that fits through the outside wall - outer section gets rid of the heat taken from inside.

A 'window rattler' is a slang term for what the manufacture would call a 'through the wall unit'. This is a self contained unit to fit through the wall or a slash window. Try visiting www.airconditionershack.co.uk and click on USA site for pictures.

There did use to be a 1kw / 3200btu monobloc portable air conditioner on the market made by GREE called the 4 in 1. But no longer manufactred.

Suggest you go for a 6000 btu monobloc portable unit, about the smallest available.

or a slash window.

I think you mean a "sash" window :)

when I see the word "slash" I tend to make tracks towards the toilet :D :p

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone could answer my question below?

Is there a technical or brand name for a 'Window Rattler' unit - an example of model number would be great!

I'm referring to one that would be manufactured by Italian company Ariagel.

Thanks!

According to the UK distributor for Ariagel they don't make a window rattler.

Using the power of Google had produced this...

For some small pictures of the different types of AC units try here...

[links removed as I can't yet post a post that has any form of URL contained within!]

Thanks for getting back to me - its historical information I'm after really - at some point in history my company went direct to Ariagel in Italy so they could manufacture what my colleague refers to as 'Window Rattlers'; but he can't remember what they were officially referred to as.

Thank you once again for your help though!

"Window unit" should be sufficient for them to recognise the type of product you are trying to describe, the language barrier when dealing with Italians is always good fun!

'Window rattler' is a slang term coming from the US back in the good old days, when the older type units did rattle. As as thet got older they rattled more.
It is understandable that if English is not the first language this terms does not mean anything.
Manufactures call this a 'through the wall unit' although mainly installed in a window application.
This website has some information if you page to the USA link. ( www.airconditionershack.co.uk )

Actually, in the USA we call them "window shakers".

Thanks for correction Gary. Lost in translation. Shake, rattle and role!
