I am working on a refrigerator that has a 20 microfarad capacitor. The compressor would not start so I would like to install a hard start kit but this thing has a run capacitor. I have not seen a small 1/4 HP compressor utilize a run capacitor. What would be wrong with doing away with the run capacitor?

Run cap keeps pwr factor constant. Keeps up proformance. I think.?

It can be a split phase compressor with two capacitors

I think there are kits that will allow you to wire the capacitor to it,ask at the nearest fridge shop:)

its unusual to have a run cap on that size, try a plug on relay with a start cap about 60mfd,clip the amprobe on and check the run current against the data plate, kneel and pray nicley.

Thanks for the info. I put a 3 in 1 kit on it and all seems well. Run amps are below load.
