Hi all got called to a unit reclaumed the gas found short 2kg began pressure testing 1.the pressures wont equilize and 2. We had the pressure to 30bar and it was dropping steadily over the course if a hour i isolated the cu from the rest of the system and never got anywhere anybody got any advice

Yep energized solenoid still pressure never equilized went right round the system bit i did notice the water in the condensate tray had a oily texture but without seeing a leak dont want to condemn the evap

txv leaking?

30bar seems way too much pressure to leak test with. You need to put the ofn in both sides of the system as the pressure won't go much over 150psi through a txv (just the same as it would limit the suction pressure in a running system)

Txv good what pressure do you advise the pressure is alot lower on the low side

I'd probably start at about 50psi and work my way up, sometimes the leak is so big the extra pressure is a hindrance as the bubble spray wont stay in place.
I'd check the system and components for their max allowable pressure and be careful not to go over it. Maybe look the refrigerant up on a pt chart and not go over the equivalent of say 30C or 35C.
If you were just testing the high side you could go higher.

Al bear that in mind cheers for the heads up but you would think with that pressure behind it you would hear a leak

depends if you got big ears! :p
sometimes leaks only appear when subjected to temperature change, quick test waft ur turbo torch over all the pipework etc, but dont frazzle the sensors

Its been left with pressure in over weeke d will check it again monday hopefully the leak will be more noticable by then

Just curious how could you tell a remote multideck was 2kg low in gas by reclaiming the charge , did you know the original charge that was put in?.

Yea it was labelled up on the unit and also the office had a record of how much gas was put in on commisioning the system

ok ,was just thinking i wouldnt trust a charge label unless ye put it on yourselves seems to be lots of guesstimate ones for fgas floating about

I know how much went in to it because i wrote it on the inside cover and on the compressor as a apprentice so not unless the new company i work for has decanted it and altered thw charge
