Hi guys, I have installed a new compressor in a display fridge and the compressor won't start.

I have checked voltage across the live and its reading 240 V

I have continuity between neutral and earth at the compressor. Is this normal?

Any help guys would be appreciated as I'm just burnt out and can't see past it.

I think the new compressor may be faulty, what do you think?

Cheers, Hayden.

If you have continuity between earth and neutral while compressor is connected to installation, than it is normal. If it is disconnected, and you have any of compressor pins with continuity to compressor casing, than compressor is faulty.

That is because neutral and earth are bonded in power supply grid.

Now, let us more data about compressor, like model number and how did you connected it to system and power supply. Also photo makes thousands of words probably not necessary.

Is there any current in the capacitor wire when its trying to start?

Monkey spanners you are a legend.

Completely slipped my mind to check that. I got sucked in by the rest of the wiring circuit and started checking for things I didn't need. Thanks.

I have changed the compressor out with another for speed (customer satisfaction and all that) and replaced the electrics on the faulty one and it is not running fine. Sealed that up and will keep as stock for a spare.

Thanks guys!
